One certainty exists for next year’s session of the Texas Legislature: Lawmakers will act on a state business tax bill.

At the end of the 2013 legislative session, lawmakers set tax rates for 2014 and 2015 only.

AUSTIN -- Today, Senator Charles Schwertner, MD (R-Georgetown) filed SB 134, also known as the Small Business Tax Relief Act. If passed, SB 134 will establish a permanent $5 million total revenue exemption from the state's business franchise tax and provide critical tax relief for tens of thousands of Texas businesses.

The lines started early Tuesday morning as voters waited to cast their ballots in the midterm elections.
