Senator Schwertner Welcomes Samsung to Taylor, TX; Announces New $17B Manufacturing Facility

Samsung’s plan to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Eastern Williamson County represents the largest foreign direct investment in Texas history.

AUSTIN, TX – Today, Senator Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown) joined Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell (R-Georgetown), and other local officials in welcoming Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) to Taylor, Texas, following an announcement by the semiconductor giant that they plan to construct a $17 billion manufacturing facility in Eastern Williamson County.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome a global industry leader like Samsung to Taylor,” said Senator Schwertner. “This state-of-the-art facility represents a transformational investment in this community and thousands of new, high-paying jobs for the citizens of Williamson County. The economic growth and opportunity brought on by today’s announcement will ensure that Williamson County remains one of the best places in America to live, work, and raise a family for decades to come.”

The massive investment by Samsung will be the largest foreign direct investment in Texas’ history, bringing the company’s total Texas investment to more than $34 billion since 1996. The project is expected to create over 2,000 high-tech jobs, thousands more indirect jobs, and at least 6,500 construction jobs. Construction will begin in early January 2022 and will be completed by the second half of 2024.  The capital investments include buildings, property improvements, machinery, and equipment.

In November 2018, Dr. Charles Schwertner was reelected to serve the citizens of Senate District 5, a ten-county region of central and east Texas.
