AUSTIN, TX Today, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick appointed State Senator Charles Schwertner, MD (R-Georgetown) to serve as Chair of the Senate Committee on Administration. 

“I am honored by Lt. Governor Patrick’s trust in my ability to lead this important committee,” said Schwertner. “The Senate Committee on Administration handles a broad range of issues that impact the people of Texas and I will work hard to ensure that all Texans have the opportunity to be heard.”

In today’s announcement, Lt. Governor Patrick also announced new committee assignments for members of the Texas Senate. In addition to chairing Senate Administration, Sen. Schwertner will serve on the Senate Committees on Finance, Business and Commerce, Education, and State Affairs. 

“Passing a balanced and responsible budget that meets the needs of our citizens is the most important priority of the Texas Legislature,” continued Schwertner. “As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I will work tirelessly to ensure that Texas remains a beacon of prosperity and economic success. I look forward to helping craft our state budget and finding solutions to the issues facing the people of Texas.” 

Since 2012, Dr. Charles Schwertner has served the citizens of Senate District 5, a ten-county region of central and east Texas, which includes Brazos, Freestone, Grimes, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker and Williamson counties.  

In addition to his role in the Texas Legislature, Dr. Schwertner also serves as a practicing orthopedic surgeon in the Georgetown area.  He and his wife Belinda, an obstetrician/gynecologist, live in Georgetown with their three sons: Carson, Zachary, and Matthew.
