The Senate's Property Tax Plan, SB 1, provides significant relief for Texas homeowners. With a 100k Homestead Exemption and lower property tax rates, homeowners could save up to $1250/year to $1450/year, totaling $20,442 over a 30-year mortgage. This plan offers $17.6 billion in tax relief and surpasses the House Plan, delivering $500 to $700 more in annual savings. ... See MoreSee Less

Can someone please explain the significant differences between the Senate and House property tax proposals? All I can figure out is that the Senate wants to use the Homestead exemption and the House wants to reduce the tax rates. Both sides claim their approach is better, but no one offers a good explanation.

Your constituents and conservative voters told you years ago in the Republican primary to replace property taxes. If this is part of the 10 year plan you idiots proposed last year, guess what, your 10 years late. Why are Yall always 10 to 20 years behind on every issue? Quit prioritizing party ideology over state necessities.

Property taxes have NO place in a free society, if we have to pay government for the “privilege” to own a home, that’s not private ownership and that’s not freedom, whether the government can take a citizen’s house for non payment or not. Repeal ALL property taxes and replace them with a consumption tax.

Thank you!

Replace property taxes, start with compression. We have a surplus.
